I feel as though comprehension is the most difficult part of reading poetry. I understand it much better after Mrs. Schultz explains it, but I struggle when I try to analyze it on my own. I find it easy to locate different literary devices used in poems. I would rather read prose selections because they are easier to comprehend.

I agree with Bailey on comprehending poems. It seems to be very difficult to try and interpret what the authors mean with their random ramblings. I definitely struggle to come up with alternate meanings for something that seems to have a straight forward meaning. At this point I prefer to do prose.

I agree with Bailey. When we first read it, I don't usually understand what is going on in the poem. Once Mrs. Schultz breaks down each stanza, it is a lot easier to understand. By doing this, the poem is easier to read and much more enjoyable.

I find the most difficult part of poetry is the comprehension. Maybe it is just the different writing style or maybe it is just my lack of ability to dissect the poems but I can't seem to figure out what the authors are saying. I understand after Mrs. Schultz explains it or after a group member explains it but I find it difficult to analyze it on my own. Finding literary devices are easier and it is actually enjoyable compared to paraphrasing the pieces. After I fully understand the poem, I find them more enjoyable but I much more comfortable doing prose.

I have to agree with Jordan. When Mrs. Schultz first reads through the poems, I am super confused and do not really understand what is going on or what the author is trying to say. I agree that after Mrs. Schultz explains it, it is easier to comprehend, but even then, I still find it difficult figuring out how she got what the author is saying with how the they words things. I am sure with more practice it will become easier though. As of now, I enjoy doing prose more than poetry.

I agree with Rachel and Jordan, on how it is way eaiser to understand the poem when Mrs. Schultz is reading it, due to how poems can be so complex. Also how sometimes my understanding of poems can be way off topic from what they really are, and Mr. Schultz understands them 100%.

I think the hardest part about reading the poetry is really understanding what is happening throughout the poem. Some of the poems are relatively easy to understand, but most of them have a lot of little things that cannot be understood right away. I also think that overall the poems have a lot of extra fluff that does not need to be included. For Example: The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock is very long, yet I do not think it needs to be, as the entire point is that he liked the girl and never told her. There is a lot of hyperbole and drama in the poem that really just makes it drag out longer than it needs to be.

I think that analyzing poetry has gotten easier as we have done more poems. The hardest part is trying understand what the poet means because of his or her word choice. A lot of the time there are words and allusions that I don't understand.

For the most part, I enjoy reading the poems, but it would be so much nicer if the authors were more clear in the point they were trying to get across. Analyzing the purpose of the poem is defiantly the most difficult but it has become easier as we do more of them. I think the point of poems is to have a deeper meaning than what the author is writing about. Once you understand the meaning of the poem, they are more enjoyable.

I feel the same way. Sometimes after reading a poem, and the meaning isn't very clear, I'm left asking myself what the point was.

The difficulties that I have had with the poems, is to ether discipher what the true meaning of the poem is or is finding the literary devises. Where I really find interest in poetry, is that there is always an underlying meaning to the words, or that just a simple sentence could mean something so expressing and meaningful. I love that about poetry. The poem that I have liked the best would probably be The Love Story of J. Alfred Prufflock.

I feel like the hardest part of doing poetry is understanding the poem itself. I think the issue with that is the poetic structure itself. In trying to create a poem that fits whatever rules it's trying to fit, it becomes hard to follow due to the orders the writer is forced to use.
