Share some of your favorite examples of dramatic irony in Macbeth. Then think: why? What is the purpose of utilizing dramatic irony in a book, play, or movie? Why do it?
Banquo is pretty sure that it is an awful idea to trust witches because they are "instruments of darkness," but Macbeth is thinking, "Heck yes! I get to be king! Woot!!" and clearly believes that the witches have prophetic knowledge of his positive future. Who is right?
Okay, what is the deal with Lady Macbeth praying away her femininity and calling upon the powers of darkness? Anyone see some negative consequences on the way for this loony toon? Or is she not crazy at all? Could we simply describe her as someone who really (like REALLY) wants to achieve her goals in life, consequences be damned? Could her "I'll do whatever it takes" mentality be admirable, or is it plain old dumb?
Get excited for the last quarter of independent reading and the last book project, too!
Quarter 3 has you all choosing modern novels to read, analyze, and enjoy. So, tell us, what are you reading, analyzing, and enjoying? How are you feeling about analyzing poetry? What is the most difficult part of breaking down a poem? What are some elements of poetry you need more help to fully "get"?
In contrast, what do you like about poetry? Are you finding it to be more enjoyable than reading and writing about prose selections? What kinds of poems do you like best? . . . here is what I like about your book. And this is what I SO don't like.
(No comments on her lack of a thesaurus, please. We've covered it. Almost as much as she uses the words "countenance" and "benevolent.") Could all of the tragedy in Frankenstein been avoided if the Creature was nurtured by his creator? Or are the Creature's actions inevitable?
